A Thousand Swords
A cousin to Kiris Alkirk, Hoyt claims that he was forced out of the Kiris family as part of a power play and abandoned when the Kiris family was forced to flee from Kiris Dahn: one less Kiris meant one less person who could claim the leadership of the family and its generational inheritance. Hoyt managed to survive the eight years since, keeping out of sight of the goblins and scrouging what meager meals he could. Hoyt’s luck ran out when the party discovered him: goblins arrived to kill him for his secret (and possibly the other, perhaps truer reason why he never left the ruins of Kiris Dahn): Hoyt was a wererat, a condition he insinuated was a curse from Treona, his cousin’s magician advisor. The resulting battle caused Hoyt to transform and attack the party in a mad rage: when the party had dealt with the goblins and Hoyt, they fled the temple where they found him, taking his unconscious, returned to human form with him. However, Hoyt’s less than great health and the wounds he had suffered caused him to die shortly thereafter, the therianthrope claiming he needed the waters of the temple to survive. How much of what he claimed about Alkirk and Theona’s motivations is true is yet unknown.
